UNRAVELING THE SECRETS OF TOOTHBRUSH BRISTLES FOR OPTIMAL ORAL CARE.
Category:Wellness
The toothbrush has come a long way. The earthliest toothbrushes were small twigs that people rubbed against their teeth to get rid of food bits and other pieces of debris. Over 100 years, the toothbrush has evolved, beginning to feature bristles made from boar’s hair. Finally in the 1930s, Dupont De Nemours introduced tooth brushes made with nylon bristles, which people still use today!
Nowadays though, there are plenty of additional choices when it comes to your toothbrush. You can use a hard, medium or soft toothbrush, an electric powered brush or a battery powered brush. When it comes to bristles, you can usually find extra soft, soft, medium and hard options. Although brushing your teeth is one of the most important things for good oral hygiene, the maintenance routine can lead to damaging the teeth. Brushing your teeth too hard can damage both the gums and the tooth enamel.
The type of bristles that are right for you depends on your specific oral care needs and any issues you might be suffering from at the time. As a general rule, dentists recommend choosing a tooth brush with soft bristles instead of one considered hard or even medium. If you have sensitive teeth and signs of enamel erosion, your dentist might even suggest a brush with extra soft bristles. Is there ever a reason to choose a hard toothbrush? Certainly not to your oral care! Although some people claim to prefer using firm bristles, the fact that they are more likely to wear a way your teeth’s enamel and your gums means they are generally not the best option. Hard bristled brushes are good for removing stains or to clean dentures.
While there are many types of toothbrushes to choose from, you should always look for one with soft or extra soft bristles. A soft bristle toothbrush is the best option because it effectively removes plaque, food and bacteria debris but is not hard enough to damage teeth and gums when being used.
