Unmasking the culprits; The 5 Key factors leading to premature aging.

Category:Wellness

Premature aging can be influenced by various lifestyle and environmental factors. Here are five key contributors to premature aging in adults between the ages of 25 and 45:

UV radiation from the sun is one of the most common reasons as it damages the skin which leads to wrinkles and spots and eventual skin elasticity. The use of moisturizers, body creams, and sunscreens helps in protecting the skin from damage and loss of elasticity.

Poor diet is another common reason why we age prematurely. This is mainly a result of nutritional deficiency and an increase in oxidative stress. Diets in high sugars, processed foods, caffeine, and Dairy products are the main reasons as they cause inflammation of the body cells. Diets rich in protein, fiber, and fruits e.g. nuts, fish, chicken, melons, apples, and grapes are preferred as they slow down premature aging.

Smoking is one of the biggest agents of premature aging as it leads to toxin exposure. These toxins increase collagen breakdown, loss of skin moisture, delayed wound healing, and reduced blood flow to the skin. Avoiding smoking completely and staying away from smokers will help slow down premature aging.

Stress, both from work, home, and events like lack of sleep, affects how fast we age. Stress decreases collagen production, impairs skin barrier function, and causes skin inflammation presented as acne or eczema. Reduce or minimize stress by engaging in sports, getting a hobby, taking a walk, aiming at 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, or having a work-life balance. This ultimately will slow down premature aging.

Lack of physical activity. We tend to sit at home, while driving, and also while at work getting the body used to inactivity which isn’t healthy for our bodies. Inactivity leads to reduced collagen production, oxidative stress, and increased risk of obesity. Aim at regular walks and runs 2-3 times a week for 30 minutes to slow down premature aging.
