Dandruff in women presents itself in a very similar manner to the way it does in men. There are however some notable differences in the contributing factors to the development of dandruff-like sebum amount, men produce more sebum than women, sebum composition, men’s sebum is thicker than that of women, and skin barrier function, men’s scalps have a weaker barrier function than that of women. Here are a few ways dandruff presents in women; Dry scalp that lacks oil or moisture that’s itchy and flaky in extreme dryness. It is caused by factors like not oiling your scalp often and wrong hair product selection or usage. Scalp moisturizers and natural oils usually help. Irritated skin. Often as a result of over-scratching the scalp which results in the area turning red, inflamed, and irritated. Medicated soaps and shampoos can help remove excess oil and dead skin. Managing dandruff involves a combination of activities both natural and dietary to combat the problem. They involve the following; The use of tea tree oil, Jamaican castor oil, apple cider vinegar oil, and lemon oil will help. Apply on the infected area of the scalp regularly, at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes before washing it out with water to moisturize and reduce the growth of yeast. The consistent use of aloe vera is of great importance as it may over time soothe and moisturize the scalp. Use shampoos that contain ingredients like ketoconazole, salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc pyrithione, piroctane olamine, and selenium sulfide if you have mild dandruff. Having a balanced diet meal plan and regular hydration of 6 glasses of water daily is a must to combat the problem. Preferably room temperature water and not cold. Meals rich in protein and vitamins are highly recommended and they include fish, chicken, omega-3, and fatty acids that promote skin and scalp health.
