So what then are the most essential nutrients your body needs?

  • Vitamins like A and C mostly found in fruits and vegetables play an important role in boosting immunity. Vitamin D which is best obtained from fatty fish, is essential for strong teeth and bones. Vitamin B complex is needed for brain functioning and production of energy for the body. Having vitamins included in your daily meal will keep you energized to meet your daily performance targets.
  • Your body needs minerals such as calcium, magnesium, zinc and many more. Calcium, commonly obtained from dairy products is necessary for strong bones and muscle activity. Magnesium, found in whole grains, spinach and other green leafy vegetables, is essential for normal muscle and nerve functioning. Zinc, commonly found in cashew and pumpkin seeds, is needed for boosting immunity and body recovery from sickness.
  • These are much needed for growth of hair, skin, muscles and bones. Foods rich in protein include chicken, beef, fish, eggs, and milk. Your hair and nails are likely to break easily once your body is extremely low on protein. For a healthier skin, hair and nails, include protein rich foods in your diet.
  • Fats/Lipids. Are fats bad? Yes, but not all of them. Some are actually good for our bodies and are absolutely necessary for energy production.

Sources of good fat include; fish oil, avocado, beans, nuts, seeds, etc.
